Serban Petrescu was born in Bailesti, Romania. He attended the George Enescu Music High School and also received his B.M. in violin performance and violin pedagogy at the National University of Music in Bucharest. Subsequently he earned his M.M. in violin performance at Southeastern Louisiana University. His teachers included Dr. Ioana Coritoru, Dr. Gabriel Croitoru, Dr. Yakov Voldman, David Salness and Lisa-Beth Lambert. He also had lessons and master classes with Elmar Oliveira, Wiliam Preucil and Peter Salaff (Cleveland String Quartet), Cecilia Arszewski (Concertmaster for Atlanta Symphony), Viktor Pikaizen, Josef Hell (Vienna Philharmonic), Mayumi Sailer.
In 2003 Mr Petrescu was awarded a scholarship from Southeastern Louisiana University and there he became one of the founders of the Liric Quartet. Together with the Liric Quartet he performed throughout the State of Louisiana in places like New Orleans (Tulane University) and Arkansas (Little Rock). In 2005 Liric Quartet won the State Division of the MTNA Competition.
In the fall of 2005 Mr Petrescu and the Liric Quartet moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania. They performed at West Chester University, The Chester County Historical Society, as well as at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Delaware Art Museum, for the Chamber Series of Newark Symphony and in Washington D.C. at the American Musicologistís Congress. In 2005 and 2006 Mr. Petrescu and the Liric Quartet have also performed for the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina. In 2005 Liric Quartet was the recipient of the Samuel Barber Award for the performance of Barber's String Quartet op.11.
In 2006 Mr Petrescu and Ms Tatyana Roytshteyn founded the Duo Pogany. Together they have performed extensively in the Philadelphia area and Delaware as well as at the Toronto Summer Festival.
Between 1997-2002 Mr Petrescu toured in Sweden, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and South Korea as a member of the orchestras Lyceum String, Concerto and Giurgiu Philarmonic.
In the U.S. Mr Petrescu was a member of Baton Rouge Symphony and Acadiana Symphony. He also performed with Mississippi Symphony, Mobile Symphony, National Radio Orchestra (Bucharest), Lancaster Symphony, Kennett Symphony, and Delaware Symphony.
Currently Mr Petrescu is serving as the concertmaster for the Newark Symphony (Delaware). In addition, he is also teaching violin,viola and chamber music at Widener University as well as maintaining a private studio.
